Last week, the Biosurfactants 2022, an international conference focussing on the production and application of biosurfactants, took place in the beautiful venue of Hohenheim castle. Besides many interesting and inspiring talks by members of academia and industry, Prof. Lars M. Blank and Dr. Till Tiso had the chance to present current work from the iAMB. While Prof. Blank focussed on the utilization of plastic monomers as substrate for biosurfactant production, which is done in the MIX-UP project, Dr. Tiso presented the iAMB work on rhamnolipids and other novel surfactant molecules. For the six participating PhD students, who were presenting their current research with posters, it was a great chance to exchange with other scientists after two years without any conferences and see how the molecules find application in industry. The conference ended with good news: Prof. Blank announced that the next Biosurfactants will take place in Aachen in 2025.
