Loose Leaf Tea Instead of Plastic Teabags

| By Leon Kirschgens & Jacqueline Plaster

There was a time when people did not buy their tea in a small bag, but loose. The switch to individually packed tea bags was practical. Practical for sales, for portioning and also practical in terms of hygiene in restaurants or hotels. Today we know that even the individually packed tea bags cause problems.

Apart from the obvious problem that they are once again disposable packaging, researchers have also discovered a potential health risk. It has been demonstrated, that a single plastic teabag releases billions of micro- and nanoplastics at brewing temperature (95°). The good news: We can still buy and use loose leaf tea! Additionally, it hast many other benefits. It tastes better, is available in more different types and flavours and it can be put in a compost.
